You should use '-d' option in order to have a detailed output.

Your database is corrupted and maybe repairfilemap script can't help
but if you are willing to wipe out and start from zero I don't see why
you shouldn't have a working system, other faults like memory or
motherboard issues apart.

This is the last thing I tried. Which also failed. The output I copied into my mail from the terminal are the results from the uninstall. I've given up trying to fix it, and agree a full uninstall/reinstall is the way to go, but I can't even uninstall!

So I've just tried again, with -fd, and it still fails, with this extra info:
