Hi Scott
Very true, this is why all of my stationary USB hubs are always self- 
powered by their own AC adapter. There's only so much power a USB port  
can provide.
One very nice feature of OS X is that it will let you know when this  
occurs. When a USB device cannot draw the required amount of power,  
you'll get a nice little dialog to that effect. You'll also get one if  
for some reason the device draws too much power or if the USB port  
surges.
