When you go to preferences and are in the accounts tab, pressing the  
new account button will bring up a window with a series of options and  
information.  The second page's first option is set to POP3.  It is at  
the top and the cursor jumps to the second item as the default .  You  
need to go up one to select the pop-up item titled Account type.  a  
ctrl-opt-i will let you find it as well with the item chooser.
