Thanks for the input regarding my need to switch a POP3 account to IMAP. I
want IMAP on this particular account because I access it on more than one
system. I guess the creation of a new account is the best approach, but I
have one other question: Is there a way to copy all of the account
information from the already-existing POP3 account so that all I'd have to
do would be to change just the POP3 setting to IMAP, or do I just have to
manually re-enter all the account information?

Thanks for the help.

Mike

Hello; Which account are you trying to set this up for? I only ask because
now aol has a pop3 alternative to imap. And maybe the company you are
dealing with does too. Hope that helps, Max

To set up an Imap account, just go to the file menu and select "add account"
or something like that. In one of the screens you will be given the option
of selecting the incoming mail server type, and you can select imap.

When you go to preferences and are in the accounts tab, pressing the new
account button will bring up a window with a series of options and
information. The second page's first option is set to POP3. It is at the
top and the cursor jumps to the second item as the default . You need to go
up one to select the pop-up item titled Account type. a ctrl-opt-i will let
you find it as well with the item chooser.

Hope that helps...

Mike when you first setup the account, you have to make that determination.
To the best of my knowledge, once you setup the account and make the choice
of imap etc. you can not change it.

Hi. Can somebody tell me if it is possible to use IMAP with the mail
program that comes with the Mac Book? I have reviewed the options for each
of my accounts and can't find where to switch between POP3 and IMAP.

Thanks in advance,

Mike
