I use a combination of Open office and Pages - the latter is very nice indeed I'm told under Snow Leopard though I haven't had the chance to try that for myself yet -.
Another word processing package -available on its own - which is super! to use is Nisus Writer Pro, very accessible and packed with all sorts of Word Processing and desktop publishing features.
