While a USB-C headphone/power/data jack might allow slimmer devices or
more internal space for other stuff, it also means your headphones could
do much more than play audio. There have been hacks over the years such
as the square credit card reader plugging into the current jack but what
if you wanted your earphone to also be a heart rate monitor, give
real-time feedback on noise near your ears so you could crank up noise
cancellation or charge the device using solar panels in your hat. Once
the connection includes data all kinds of things are possible.

Remember, Apple will include headphones. 99% of the consumers will not care
how these headphones attach to their phone. They know the headset is included
and that’s as far as it goes. Remember you’re thinking like an interested

works nobody will care. For folks who are a little more picky and want a
better set of headphones, I put my self in this category, we’ll just get an
adapter. It makes absolutely no difference in my life or use case whether I

and the few that do will get over it because there will be lightning to 8th

but when you’re fighting for millimeters everything counts. Just a few
