Hi Helga, I have a text edit doc that stays in my drop box folder which I edit from either my El Capitan box or my mac pro box. I think if you keep the doc in the "RTF " format its cross platform usable. Lately I've been getting that whacked out dialogue about only being able to edit a copy of the doc when that happens I go to the drop box folder and hit command I to get info on the text edit doc and un check the lock box for that doc and everything goes back to coolness! The pass word I'm referring to is when you go to check or un check the lock for the doc it asks you for the computer pass word for your mac then you put it in and move on.
