Mary, I’ve got the solution for you.

I use a Sony sound bar which I absolutely love. It’s the higher end Sony sound
bar that Best Buy sells, I’ll have my assistant read the model number off if
you want although I think it’s a pretty standard model. The key is, it has an
optical in. How I have it wired is as follows.

The HDMI from the different devices (set top box for FIOS, Apple TV, Fire TV,
Xbox 1) go direct from the device to the TV. Then, I take the optical out from
the TV and patch it directly to the optical in on the sound bar. You use the
TV as the HDMI switcher. Voice over works flawlessly with no lost words in
this configuration. It never dropped any with HDMI passed right through either
but the issue I had there was the audio would entirely stop once in a while and
require a restart of the sound bar. Using the optical transport has totally
eliminated all sound loss issues and provides a fantastic sound quality. This
sound bar also has a very nice sub which is wireless and can be placed
anywhere in the room. There’s even a mode for apartment use so it tries to
isolate the sound more in your space and let less leak in to the adjoining
units. Can’t say enough good things about it.

Hope that helps.
