Scott, We have a couple of 3D printers around and they work on a different model, although the thinking may have been based on similar premises. This 3D printing stuff moves too fast for us to keep up. Our first machine used spools of ABS plastic and constructed the object in layers. The newer one uses different frequencies of lasers to, essentially, raise the object out of a pool of resin. There's even more efficient and less expensive models out there now, we just can't keep spending money. Our students love creating things using these tools.
