Hello everyone,
I am very embarrassed to be asking this question, because I have been using a
MacBook for over eight years. My only defence is that the Mac has worked so
well for me that I have not needed to change things, once they were set up
properly.

It became necessary to retire my 2009 MacBook. I have now been using the
latest 13 inch MacBook for three days.

Here’s my problem:

My system is configured to use the US language operating system, but I live in
Austria, so much of my work is done in German. Consequently, I need to
regularly switch between German and English. My new MacBook is speaking
English without any problems. However, I am unable to figure out how to add
German without making it my default language. If I go into the VoiceOver
utility menu by pressing VO-F8, I can’t find any option to let me download
additional languages. Besides not being able to find where to download
additional languages, I am unable to change my default voice in English,
because VO isn’t downloading my preferred voice. The message I have been
getting for the past two days when trying to download a different default voice
for English is: “Waiting for download.”

So in a nutshell, here are my questions:

1. Where can I go to grab German to be used as my secondary language?

2. What can I do to initiate downloading of a default English language voice
that is currently not on my system?

Thanks so much in advance,

Mike

I recently retired my 2009
