The simple fact that people do, for whatever reason, engage in plagerism is not evidence that you (or they) own anything.
The next time you join a list, or a service like Face Book, don't just click the "I Agree" box, but read the terms first. You'll find, for example, that Face Book owns anything you post there. You gave them ownership of whatever you post on Face Book when you clicked "I Agree." Which isn't to say that Face Book owns the poetry of Robert Frost, should you post some poetry of his and sign your name to it. But, it certainly doesn't make it yours, either. You'll never make a dime on it, though Face Book just might make more than a dime on it, even though you plagerized. For one thing you'd be likely to end up on an index of plagerists, and that fact alone could be of value. There's a famous incident, recounted in the recent book "Future Crimes," where a young girl in Minneapolis shared her fears and concerns with her friends on her Face Book page. Most particularly, she did not tell her family that she was pregnanet. While she was screwing up the courage to tell them, their postal mailbox began recieving various flyers offering coupons and gqapspecial deals for new mothers--that's how they found out. You think this service is free? There's nothing free. You and I are the products the Googles and Face Books of the world sell for money. And, if you check their stock price, you'll find they're making a pile of money by mining your and my data from these supposedly free services.
