Hello Simon and Everyone,

Interesting.

I'm glad to know that the USB sticks show up in High Sierra.

I think the last time I made a bootable stick, then tried to use it, was back
on El Capitan.

I think I'll make a bootable stick, sometime this week. It's a good idea to
have one, right?

Thank you all for chiming in on this one. I love re-evaluating my perspective
on these types of issues said reevaluation being inspired by all of your
wonderful feedback.

Mark

Yes I to can confirm that the usb bootable installers do show up in start up
disk.

However there is an issue if the bootable USB has an older version of the mac
os installer An older version wont show up in the start up disk

Hi Mark,

I have not experienced what you are stating. In all previous version of the
MacOS bootable installer on a USB stick that I have created, it was visible
through the Startup Disk. I just tested my High Sierra USB installer and it
was visible in the Startup Disk pane as well. I'm certainly not disputing that
you've had that experience, but it is not the morn.

Anders,

As I recall, in all previous versions of Mac OS, even if the bootable stick is
prepared correctly, it does not show up in the Startup Disk preferences dialog
box.

The last time I checked, the only way I could see the bootable stick was via
the Option key-press at startup.

I have not yet made a bootable High Sierra stick so cannot confirm this but
such was definitely the case in the previous OS.

Hi!
I have created a bootable usb stick with Hi sierra as i have to do a clean
install.
The problem is that its not in the startdisk selection when i go to system
prefs and start disk.
I think i have made a mistake by formatting it to Mac os extended journal.
I am not sure if this matters or not.
Is there a way of checking wheather the downloaded installer may be corrupt or
something else may have gone south?
How big should the installer package be when its downloaded.
Mine is 5 gb.
Thanks in advance.
/A
