The volume is plenty loud for me, most of the time. The problem I run into is after swimming or otherwise getting the device wet. At that point, it gets a great deal quieter until it dries some. The water lock sound helps, but not as much as you'd think. I've found that making a call on it, so that the speaker has to play the sound of the phone ringing on the other end, does a good job of clearing water.
