Hi Tracey, You don't need the airport router anymore! They are so out of date. One other note is that I'm not crazy about routers given by your ISP, I prefer to buy my own, but, I have heard good things about the Xfinity router. As far as security, just choose WPA2 and give it a good network name/password and you'll be all set. I wish Apple was still updating the Airport routers they were some of the best I've ever used and the easiest to setup. Hope this helps! Jeff
