Hi Traci,
As far as modems go I like the Motorola one's on amazon. I bought one
and have had no trouble with it. What I did was dump the X1 package
(which went from $129 to $199 without notice) and just went to Xfinity
internet with my own modem. Also if you get your own modem you save
$10 a month rental fee. Just make sure the modem you pic is DocSys 3.0
or 3.1. I know I misspelled DocSys but anyway...
As far as routers go I like the Synology Rt2600AC. Its operating
system is based on Synology's Disc Manager off their NAS drives, I
think its based on lynux. They update it often and have a bunch of
small apps you can install for intrusion protection etc. I had one for
a year and a half at which point it started doing strange things. I've
since replaced the synology with a Gryphon Unhackable Router, which is
faster, will do mesh networking and has a cool iphone app to set it
up. And the Gryphon people seem really responsive to questions.
Probably if you search on amazon for 802.11AC routers then sort your
search by average customer review, you probably wouldn't go wrong with
any of the top choices.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
Jeff
