Hi Janina,

 Yeah it is,
Considering it's lasted being hit by me and a 50 seater tour bus,
Dropped
Stood on,
 Sat on multiple times.
Keyboard losing keys,
Food stuck in the usb ports, I love children,

So yeah I got my moneys worth out of it,

I do think that if I get a 2017 refurbished device that automatically I lose
2 years off that devices life,
So we'll put that in to the thought process over the weekend.

Hi Again, Simon:

I think six years from a machine is actually pretty good.

My longest survivor ever was a 2008 Thinkpad X61s, which I just retired a
couple months ago as it no longer powered up in any way. Not at all.

I've had several desktop/tower machines go 8 or 9 years. And, I've had laptops
go almost as long.

But, here's the thing, if it's missing something you find fundamentally
important, like a keyboard you like and a boot chime you actually depend on to
function well, giving those up is unlikely to work out well, imo.

I'm currently torn. If there's really a Pro from 2017 with the old keyboard,
USB3, and a boot chime, I would consider that even though 16 Gb is something I
consider baseline.

I'm seeing the same problem in the Thinkpad X1 Carbon machines currently
available new.

I know Jason likes his Thinkpad P1 which can be had with 32 Gb ram. It has a
great keyboard, even compared to other Thinkpads, and it includes a numeric
keypad. How cool is that?

But, then one is giving up OS X.

Always some kind of trade-off! <smile>

Best,

Janina
