Hi Dan,

I don't believe that you're stuck with Yosemite.  To confirm, could you go to 
the Apple menu, to About This Mac and let me know exactly what it says about 
your Mac.  That is, amount of memory, MacOS version, Mac model if available on 
that screen.  If it's not on that screen, you may need to get it under the 
System Information button.  I realize that you've already mentioned some of 
this info, but I need to confirm.

Second thing.  Do you have an external USB HD or anything like that so we can 
see about installing things on it as a temporary step?  Thanks.
