It is slightly possible that your account has not been enabled for File vault logins. I remembered there being a dialog in ElCapitan systems where one could list the users that were allowed to login at the file vault screen or something similar to that. I couldn’t find that. But in any case, when you here “Username” you should be able to type your username except the Macintosh won’t speak what you type.
