Hi,

As already mentioned, it depends on whether you’re hosting or simply
participating in a Zoom session as to whether the Mac or iOS/iPadOS version
suits your needs as there are more features available on the Mac version. One
major concern from a VO user prospective is the announcing of chat messages.
This is mutable on iOS/iPadOS whereas I’ve been unable to mute this on the Mac.
I have made my Zoom rep aware of this as well as submitted Zoom feedback
regarding this. Hopefully, they implement something in an update soon. I,
like many others, use headphones as it keeps things less noisy in my house for
the rest of the clan, and others don’t need to hear my VO chattering away.
There are, of course, situations where we’re playing family games via Zoom or
other meeting platforms when I don’t use headphones, but do in most all
professional sessions.

Later…

No matter what platform you use, you should always use headphones or a headset.
Forcing others on the call to hear your screen reader is just inconsiderate.

Hi,

I think in many ways it depends what you want to do etc if you are the meeting
host then the Mac version gives more control and features so you might want
that - the IPAd or phone versions are simpler interfaces. There is the issue
that voiceover can be heard but I have asked others on the call and they say it
is not really much much of a problem - one way to reduce this is to mute your
mike and then use the space bar to temporarily unmute when you want to speak -
you need to ensure this feature is enabled in settings but once you have done
this it really is a good thing.

If you let us know what kinds of things you want to do maybe more advice can be
offered - Tim Paul joy and I did a couple of practice zooms so we could help
one another out and that was really useful - happy to do that again if people
want it - although we do need to navigate time zones
