Hi Gary,
One way to do this is to have your friend send a drop box link for the file to 
you by text or email.
Have your friend  find the file  in his drop box folder on his mac and get a 
"contextual menu" on it, the command is "control option shift with down arrow"
and from that contextual menu choose "copy drop box link.
That will copy a link to the file to his clip board and then   he can paste it 
in to a email or text it to you.
Then you click on his link to the  file and go and retrieve it. :)
