In my humble opinion, I think we have had enough people leave this list
because of off topic and controversial debates. This might be a discussion
better suited for off the list. I am on several lists, and I’ve seen all kinds
of signatures that range from the devoutly religious to political slogans to
comical quotes. Of course, like mine, you have business related information as
well. I also moderate another list and own my own list that I try to shepherd
to the best of my ability these days. A signature, unless it contains truly
offensive statements or some kind of inappropriate language, is really nothing
more than whatever the reader wants to make of it. In other words, to me, what
Ray or E.T. or anyone else states in their signatures isn’t something I hardly
notice myself. I usually only read the content of someone's posts and don’t
venture beyond that point. I only looked at Ray’s signature when it became a
topic of discussion and I don’t personally find it offensive and it would not
be something I’d have him remove on my list, just as the various other
statements and such made in the signatures of other users would not be an
issue for me that I’ve encountered here. The problem here is if you start
trying to play signature police, it will get to the point in which everyone’s
signatures can be deemed annoying or inflammatory or inappropriate. If you open
that can of worms, you’ll get people making cases for half the people on this
list to remove their given signatures, and that’s down right silly and crossing
the line into the tyrannical in nature.

To be honest, I personally find the climate of taking offense over just
about anything a person might say or opinions they might express tiresome. We
can all coexist just fine on any email list or forum if we stop looking for
slights and taking issue with everything in the world. I was stupefied by the
reaction of one of the posters I read when someone simply took the time to wish
everyone on the list a happy Independence day, which I thought was a great
gesture as a proud American myself who’s father and many of my relatives served
their country and in the case of an uncle, died for it. There is enough anger
and posturing in the world as it is, and I’d rather leave such discussions in
the realm where it’s appropriate. I have my own set of convictions and opinions
on the world, but I don’t think anyone else neither cares about them nor do I
find it necessary to express them on a public list.

As a blind person, I face enough prejudice and discrimination in society,
despite it being 2020. However, I am at the point in my life that I just don’t
care about political correctness or the like. As long as people are not
personally attacking one another and filling the list with inappropriate
language and off topic rants, well, there is the magic of the delete key if you
simply don’t want to read what someone has to say. Because I’m on so many lists
and have to sift through 300 plus emails a day, I exercise use of the delete
key quite often.
I think this topic was much better served discussing Firefox on the Mac, so
let’s not cause anyone to leave this list with further debates along these
lines before they really stray off course. I think Mark and Cara are busy
enough, so let’s not have to get them to have to play nannie for us again
please?

Again, just my opinion and I apologize for filling your inbox with an off
topic message, folks.
