I've had Macs of various stripes in my life since 2009, and I'm always stumped by the following problem when I set up a new one, which I just did today with the arrival of the Mini with the M1 processor. If I display files and folders in a list view, as ai arrow down and encounter a folder, it automatically opens, showing me its contents in the list. I usually have that set to open if and only if I use the Command-Down Arrow command to do so. What setting do I need to change to stop folders from automatically opening, and return to the way they were on previous versions of MacOS? Some to whom I have put this question have insisted I use Column View which they say is much easier and more intuitive. To this, I say, thanks but no thanks, I like my list view, and I want it to behave as it has probably since Snow Leopard.

Thanks in advance.
