Backing up your files in cloud storage should be good enough to start all over 
again with a new computer. You can export VO preferences, and import them to a 
new machine but when backing up An entire   machine and transporting it to 
another, especially if they are two different systems does run major risks like 
the one we have ben hearing about. Keep set-up files of apps you need for the 
newer machine so they can install from scratch and you should be good to go.
