General maintenance of any machine is always a good idea.
I also back up data to an external hard drive and then back up that external
hard drive to another external drive.
I do not just rely on the cloud.
Apple phased out iTunes for Windows and iTunes for mac I believe.

brad,
Granted I have still yet to find an inclusive way for me to use Apple products,
but speaking personally, one thing I have kept as a practice over the 30 years
of using computers, is not accumulating the nonexistent garbage you reference.
So, perhaps your choice of phrase from this thread, that you know the best way,
was a poor choice?

You are expert on only one person's housekeeping processes, your own.
Therefore your stance about time machine backup risks, apply only to yourself.
Same can be said for those who prefer trusting their data to Icloud.
Speaking personally, the safest for my own use is physical backup media.
I personally insure mine contain only what I wish preserved, but that is me.
While your stance about time machine is fine...for you, the assumption that
garbage will be transferred only applies to you, or others who are not
careful in what they keep. Making our generalization s something that
cannot be said to apply uniformly to everyone else.
Donna is sending her machine back. after all the issues, that, speaking
personally, makes the most sense.
