I’ve got a Mac mini running Catalina, and my primary speakers are connected to
the headphone jack. The other day, I was pressing keys kind of fast, and one of
the keystrokes I did muted my headphones. I was still able to unplug them and
get output from VO so I could troubleshoot using the internal speaker. The
only way I was able to get sound back through the headphone jack was to go to
System Preferences > Sound > Output, and uncheck the mute box. As an aside, VO
didn’t tell me it was a checkbox, I just pressed space hoping that would work,
and thank goodness it did, so everything is back to normal!

I’ve been looking through different lists of shortcuts, but I can’t find a
keystroke that would have initially done the muting. So now, does anyone know
what shortcut I might have done to cause the headphones to go silent?
