does this happen if you put your Mac to sleep?

Hi,

MacOS does routine disk maintenance every day, every week and every month.
This includes defragmentation and disk optimization. As long as you leave your
Mac turned on overnight, these are done on a schedule and in the background.
There is no need to do other tasks to accomplish these tasks. If you do turn
off your Mac over night, they will start soon after you’ve turned it on, but
this can affect performance while it’s happening.
