Carolyn,

When I went to the Apple store for a demo and ended up buying one, the
sales person gave me a set of earphones to use while he demonstrated
Voiceover. It greatly cut down on the general noise yet I could hear
the sales person just fine. Bring some with you or ask the trainer for
a set. You shouldn't have to suffer all that noise after paying the big
bucks.

Linda

Hi Olivia:
One to one is going well. I'm having a little trouble though because we
are learning in a very noisy setting, and with my hearing loss, it's
sometimes hard to hear and interact with the trainer and dear Alex. But
we are making progress, and the more I work with the mac and find my
questions, the easier it is for my trainer to help me solve things.
I also find Jaws a little clearer of pronunciation than Alex. Somehow,
the Mac speech seems just a little more primitive. For example, the
word "thanks" ,swhen taken by itself sounds almost more like a noise to
me. But, of course, that could be a quirk of my hearing.<grin>

In today's session, she taught me how to show date received within the
collumns, but she hasn't been able to make the "sort by date received"
stay that way. So, each time I open Mail, I have to go into view and
check it again. We also worked on how to work with mail rules, such as
landing mail from certain people in certain mailboxes.
I'm planning to work more exclusively with the Mac this week, so I can
ask more specific questions.
Thanks for asking.

How's your one on one training going?
I have heard mixed reviews from consumers using VO, and am curious.

Hi Olivia:
I go to view under menu. Arrowing down, there is a sort-by submenu.
Wish I could get it to stick, though. I'm still wondering about the
shift-backslash Sarah talked about.

Well, off to the Apple store. Perhaps I can bring back some useful
tidbits?:)

How do you even sort messages by date?
You are ahead of me :)

They then seem to sort by alphabet, or sometimes by thread. Is there a
more permanent way to have them sort by date? Guess I'm too impatient
to wait for my next session to find out<grin>
