Ok, one of my notorious "just wondering" questions.

I've heard many discussions about whether screen curtain saves battery life in
laptops and the smaller devices. I'm wondering if screen curtain works by
modifying information that's already been passed to the display, or whether it
bypasses the display altogether. If it's used on an Ipod, for example, does it
still use a lot of resources? Does anyone know how it works, technically
speaking?

Thanks,
Teresa
