If anybody is having the problem with Mail in which messages do not seem to delete immediately, it definitely appears to me to be a problem with voiceover's speech either not being able to keep up or interrupt itself and go on to the next item. When I use braille and mut voiceover, I have no problems with this issue at all. I'm also thinking that using less lines of preview of the messages may help but I haven't gotten around to changing this in Mail preferences yet to try this.
