What I do for this, at least at the moment until I get a USB mic or a smaller 
3.5MM mic input that doesn't burn out when I hook it straight to the line-in on 
the Mac, for now, I use my guitar amplifier to boost the signal from an old 
Shore concert mic--ball and stick, heavy as hell, but I can now add weird 
effects into my voice; particularly entertaining when ordering a large pizza.
