OK Garth. I think that is probably what I was not understanding, was that
while not playing, it was the insertion point that was moving, not the play
head. So, I guess then, what would be the best stratigy that you! would
personally take if you didn't want to have audio playing and use your arrow
keys, like, if you had a much finer area you needed to home in on?

Hi Chris
Amadeus is working correctly and as designed from your description. The
playhead and insertion heads can not be tied together as far as I know. I
personally Like the way that when audio is not playing, the arrow keys move
the insertion point rather than the playhead. But I also think that it would
b good to be able to tie the insertion point to the playhead.
You can press command G to bring up a goto dialog.
Feel free to check out a podcast I did on Amadeus at my site

I thick it is episode 37.

OK. My guess is that I probably just don't know what I'm doing, but
here's the situation.
I have recorded a television show which lasted about an hour and a half.
Obviously, there were commercials which now I need to edit out. I noticed
that when no audio was playing, if I used my left and right arrow keys
while quick nav was not enabled, my play head moved as expected, but every
time that I hit left and right arrow keys while not playing, it's jumping
literally about 10 or so minutes back and forward each time I hit the
keys. Obviously, while audio *is!* playing, I can left and right arrow to
scrub through the file, and up and down arrows to adjust my speed with no
problem. this only is happenning if audio is not playing. I went to the
menu bar, and to the window menu and under markers, and made sure to
start, that there were none, and sure enough, there weren't. So now, when
I hit the tab key while not playing, it returns my play head to the
beginning of the recording, and starts playing. Now, here is the reason
for my post. this is so bizarre! I should add that I don't recall
changing any settings, but maybe I did, so if someone can tell me in
preferences how on the general tab to have things, one by one set, I'd
appreciate it. Basically, the issue is that when audio isn't playing, if
I hit the left and right arrow keys, then space bar, I get very
undesirable results. Basically, I find that the insertion point is
moving, but not the play head. So for instance, say that I put the
insertion point at the very end of the recording, then I was to hit the
tab key to go to the beginning. Then I hit space to stop it playing.
Now, if I right arrow, say, two or 3 times while it isn't playing, then
hit space bar to play, I get silence, as there is nothing left to play.
the insertion point is still at the very end of the recording. So, I'm
having thus to hit command+y to bring the insertion point to the play head
every single time before I resume playing after using the arrow keys while
not playing. Otherwise, my movements either 1, don't work at all, or more
likely, they work, but in very unwanted ways. Is there not a setting I
can check where the insertion point cursor always follows my play head?
This way, if I stop, my insertion point will be right there with my play
head regardless where I arrow around? Also my final question is, say I
have a 45 minute long recording. Is there a keystroke I can hit to jump
say... to 22 mins and 30 seconds into the file? Like a go to time
command?
Thanks.
Chris.
