It would be smarter to write the UI from (almost) scratch, since most
of maemo's current UI relies on Gtk. I don't think there is a way to
get a non-Gtk app to show up in the task navigator for example.

That said, there's no reason you couldn't _run _ KDE/Qt apps in maemo
SDK. On the device it would (probably) eat all the memory to load two
toolkits, but on the SDK you could at least play with it.

The Gtk in maemo is tweaked also, and work is done to make it feasible
for those changes to go to upstream. Also there are lots of additional
widgets designed for stylus interaction.
