Just in case anyone else tries the below - your device might go into
a reboot loop.
Presumably need to disable the watchdog thingy.

You could use the browser as your "desktop" process.
Replace PROG=/usr/bin/maemo_af_desktop with
PROG=/usr/bin/browser in /etc/osso-af-init/maemo-af-desktop.sh.
