Hi,

i solved my issue by checking that in the .desktop file there was NO
space at the end of each line.
Indeed, there was a space after the "Exec" entry (right before the Icon= one).
This solved everything and now I do have all the icons popping up
everywhere they need to.

According to this:

http://maemo.org/development/documentation/how-tos/4-x/customizing_maemo_and_creating_themes.html

in the Icon section it states:

"The main icons used in maemo, such as Internet browser, Application
menu, Mail and the status bar icons can be modified just by changing
the images in the following directory:
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/hildon/

The icons can be customized by changing the following images. Again,
the original ones should be backed up first. Also, the same file
format and image size should always be used. All icons are 8-bit,
64x54 pixels .png images."

Thus, I think that only the "scalable" icon is mandatory and scaled accordingly.
I will try that.

The other sizes are used in different parts of the UI (for example the
icons in the Status Bar).
