Maemo is linux under the hood no matter what the gui is or the weirdness of some of the embedded stuff like busybox. Sockets are used like they are on any other linux platform, or else you couldn't compile & run standard programs without modification. netcat is one such example. https://garage.maemo.org/viewvc/trunk/packages/netcat.xml/?revision=135&root=mud-builder As far as learning how to use sockets, that depends on your language.
