If tool A uses tool B under the covers, and is effectively no more than a wrapper around it, with its own config files to obfuscate things which add no value at all *for a particular use case*; then no, I don't see a difference. Maemo isn't Debian, despite being built on it, and the auto-builder use cases are different to those in Debian; why cling to a tool which is designed for one use when using scp (which is all dput is using here) could solve some real world problems?
