Mark, I share your frustration. Furthermore, with the all of other technologies available on the market at the current price range of the 770, and MIT working on the holy grail of the $100 laptop (albeit w/o wireless) I am beginning to think the 770 may be overpriced by a large margin. For this kind of product there is considerable price elasticity of demand and at $150 - $200 US or so it could be quite a hot product.
