to have a fix to the stable release that would not apply to the same
software version that was not rebuilt on cauldron ?

It will probably happen the most often during update testing, with regressions specific to the update (spotted by the maintainer or the QA team) due to problems with oldest libs or different system (e.g. gnome2/gnome3, initscripts/systemd, ...).
