It's perfectly possible to probe a machine for x86_64 capability. The real issue is how much you can fit on a DVD. However, we have the option to say "if you want to do a network install, you can boot a small ISO, but if you want everything offline, you'll need to download 2 (or 3, or 4) DVDs".
