Great, so presumably your earlier problem was indeed a duff jpeg as Anthony

I suspect it's similar to the earlier jpeg decode problem and you're also
missing the PNG library. On debian:

 apt-get install libpng12-dev

And then of course yet another ./configure and make install.

You might also check that you have libtiff4-dev whilst you're about it!
They're probably others too, but that's all of the ones I know about.
