I just noticed that this behavior shows only if the 'Show log window'
preference option is *not* checked. If it is checked, then the behavior
is correct and the warning is shown just when I search (and it is
displayed in a modal way).

No, it is not displayed in the background.

Note though that I use Windows XP, while you seem to be using
a GNU/Linux system. This could explain the difference, even if there
should not be such difference.

Could you give me some steps to do to see if I have the same behavior as
you experience: it seems you have modal dialogs that do not show modal,
but I never noticed that.
