Hi! I got referred to your website about Mahogany somewhat on a whim, but I was most interested in what you are trying to do. Unfortunately, personally I do not have any skills useful to your project other than perhaps a tester!
I went straight from CP/M machines to Macs and I don't do Windows! However, I've been using Claris Emailer 2.0v.3 for my email client for a number of years now. I subscribed to their very active and knowledgeable list serve, where other email clients are routinely and informally compared to the features of Emailer and mainly found wanting. Since Emailer is officially an orphan, everyone expects sooner or later to have it break irretrieveably; however, Emailer is still happily functioning in OS X. One of the regular participants in the list serve was actually one of the Emailer developers at Apple/Claris, and a few similar types lurk and pop up from time to time. The reason I mention this is that the consensus there is that Emailer was/is the most elegant client program written, because it has such great flexibility. It seems that no one person uses all its power. (Sort of like ProVUE's Panorama in that respect.) There is talk on the list serve from time to time of doing an updated version of Emailer; apparently, some problem exists as to whether or not a copy of the source code is actually still extant. Anyway, if you are trying to write a program which has the "best features" of all the existing, I certainly hope you've looked carefully at Emailer.
