Alumni giving is up

The number of alumni donors to the University of Minnesota increased by
seven percent in fiscal year 2002, and they gave one third of the $165
million in gifts received for the year ending June 30, 2002. A record
73,000 donors made gifts last year, with 40 donating $1 million or
more.
Although less than the previous two years, donations from all donors
were 22 percent higher than in fiscal year 1999.
Gifts to the University provide scholarships and fellowships for
students, create endowed faculty positions, support teaching and
outreach
programs, fund cutting-edge research, and help in building new
facilities
and other resources.

Most of you might already be familiar with such news items but I
thought it still is worth sharing. I remember the discussion we had on
our
mailing list a while back about comparing Pantnagar graduates with
other
reputed institutes and, how some of us did not like to see GBPUAT put
in bracket lower than any of its counterparts. Well, without raising
the
issue again, I just want to say that we should get some inspiration
from news items like this one and hopefully then, we will never have to
engage in any discussions to prove our point.

Uttaranchal,to set up networking academies in the
newly created state.As per MoU, cisco in partnership
with Uttaranchal govt,will setup a regional acedemy
and five local academies in state.College of
