7500 is not a terribly big number of subscribers, but it does sound like your config file got corrupted.
Run the check_db program on your list: ~mailman/bin/check_db <listname> If it is corrupt and can't be recovered, then you should probably delete the list and start over. :-( You might want to check on the server to see if you can isolate what caused the problem. Could someone else have restarted the Web-server while you were adding folks via the web-interface?
