For Mailman 2.2, I am considering changing the Sender: header from the LIST-bounces address to the LIST posting address. As discussed in the FAQ at <http://wiki.list.org/x/RoA9>, I think this is in the spirit of RFC2822/RFC5322. However, I am nervous about this. There are potential problems with non-compliant/brain-dead software that might inappropriately direct bounces or out of office/vacation messages to the Sender: where they might end up on the list. I think that bounces aren't of great concern as I think there are few MTAs that return bounces to other than the envelope sender, and even if an MTA returns a bounce to Sender: it likely won't be From: a list member. I'm more concerned about out of office/vacation messages. I would like to hear from anyone who as actually made this change (putting the list posting address in Sender:). If you have done this, do you notice an increase in these kinds of messages reaching the list. -- Mark Sapiro <m...@msapiro.net> The highway is for gamblers, San Francisco Bay Area, California better use your sense - B.
