I'd go for Brett Terpstra. He's a Markdown fanatic and loves low level
tweaking. I think MailMate would be right up his alley.
Also, while he's not on 5by5, Dr. Drang also has a lot of influence
among the alpha nerds. He doesn't do paid ads, but if he's intrigued
by MailMate, he'd write about it.
Yes, they could definitely be effective promoters for MailMate. Each has
led me to learn and try new tools, and purchase software, based on their
recommendations and example usage. So have Merlin Mann, Dan Benjamin,
Shawn Blanc, Ben Brooks, David Sparks, Katie Floyd, Marco Arment, John
Siracusa, and Federico Viticci. All do (or once did) participate in the
5by5 community.
I could see Brett and Dr. Drang (and possibly others in the above
mentioned group) wanting the ability to specify a markdown processor.
Brett Terpstra might like MultiMarkdown, while Dr. Drang might want to
use his own customized version. (I'm not trying to speak for them, just
speculating based on what I've read and heard from/about each in
following their work.)
Of course, I would also love the ability to use MultiMarkdown or some
other variant with MailMate… a la Marked's "Custom Markdown Processor"
preference, perhaps?
