Yes, they could definitely be effective promoters for MailMate. Each
has led me to learn and try new tools, and purchase software, based on
their recommendations and example usage. So have Merlin Mann, Dan
Benjamin, Shawn Blanc, Ben Brooks, David Sparks, Katie Floyd, Marco
Arment, John Siracusa, and Federico Viticci. All do (or once did)
participate in the 5by5 community.
I read all of these people religiously and seriously consider spending
the time and effort to use nearly any relevant software or technique
that they espouse — and I know I’m hardly alone. (I knew most of
them did web videos, but I’ve never taken the time to watch any of
them, since reading is so very much faster.)
Another person to approach would of course be John Gruber, the [Father
of Markdown](http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/), who of
course has a *huge* audience with Daring Fireball. He [used
Mailsmith](http://daringfireball.net/2007/08/rethinking_email) and
advocated for it for nearly a decade — leaving it (as so many of us
did) because he needed IMAP. I suspect he’d be intrigued by MailMate,
and even if he wasn’t, Daring Fireball would seem to me to be a
perfect place to advertise.
I could see Brett and Dr. Drang (and possibly others in the above
mentioned group) wanting the ability to specify a markdown processor.
Brett Terpstra might like MultiMarkdown, while Dr. Drang might want to
use his own customized version. (I'm not trying to speak for them,
just speculating based on what I've read and heard from/about each in
following their work.)
And Gruber would probably want Markdown 1.0.1. :-)
Finally, make sure to keep Ric Ford at
[Macintouch](http://macintouch.com) apprised of new releases of MailMate
and of crowd-funding status. He still has a large and faithful
old-school following, and his *raison d’être* is to inform Mac users
about new apps and software updates.
