No, he didn't.  I proposed "XM" records, to denote mail sources (as opposed
to MX records, which denote mail sinks) back in 2003.  See message

as well as 20030527182810.ga20...@gsp.org on spam-l, 5/27/2003, among others.

Of course, those who patent software invariably lie about their claims
and pretend prior art doesn't exist, so this isn't really surprising.
