that send spam to Microsoft. Now, all of a sudden and without warning, Microsoft has blacklisted the entire range 5.9.0.0/16.

If the mail that range is sending Microsoft is anything like the mail it's sending my much smaller network, I can't say I'm surprised.

I still get a fair amount of spam from Hetzner too but nowhere near as much as I used to a couple of years ago.

In particular, all the spam from Hetzner I've received recently has been from small-scale operations sending to very specific spamtraps. It's been a while since I've been inundated with floods to all my spamtraps by professional spammers.

But maybe I've just been lucky?

The reduction I've seen in spam suggests that the efforts of the abuse desk seem to be paying off.

Of course, there will always be room for improvement and I wouldn't be surprised if there are still professional spammers at Hetzner. They just haven't been hitting my spamtraps recently.
