I was aware of the account switching popup, actually. It doesn't
provide a key element that's provided by the drawer: a quick view of
the number of unread messages in a given account. While the count is
available in the popup, since the popup is hidden most of the time,
it's not easy to "eyeball' the number of unread messages for each
account.

Regardless, the main issue is aesthetic, not functional: drawers are
ugly, and even Apple no longer uses them.
